{Holiday Styling Repurposed: Antique Auto Horns}

When I found two antique auto horns a few months ago in an old dilapidated antiques shop, I knew they had potential.  In their original state, they were black & coated with grease; but that didn't deter me or my love for what they could be.  Their crusty, worn patina was hiding underneath that layer of neglect & I was determined to uncover it.  They are going to make the most awesome vases, perfect for the holidays!

This is one of the horns after being polished.  I think the wear of the chrome plate & all the dings added a nice charm.  On it's own the horns weren't stable enough to stand securely, so I found a complimentary wood block to use as a base:

Using Annie Sloan's Paris Grey paint, I painted the block, ensuring to put a thick coat on it for an aged texture.   The horns already had holes which made for an easy assembly.

After painting & waxing the bases, we attached the horns using old screws in keeping with the age of the horns:

Voila!  Here they are in their completed state:

They blend in so nicely with my eclectic collection of things I love.  I am really having a hard time actually putting a price tag on them.  But my space at Queen is bare, in need of some awesomeness, & I'm pretty sure these will fit the bill.  So in they will go tomorrow.  Industrial repurposing at its finest!
